Disclaimer: My mother and I are friendly, but not close.
Today I found the following on my facebook feed:
Naturally, since my mother lives in a midwestern state with my father – whom she is still married to (as far as I knew) – I was alarmed.
So I facebooked messaged her.
THAT’S RIGHT.
Inducing a HEART-ATTACK in your daughter who IS IN MED SCHOOL somehow = BREAST CANCER AWARENESS.
This shit has seriously gone too far.
Why can’t we all just donate money to research instead of playing facebook games with our loved ones?
Thank you, thank you thank you. It would be impossible to agree more with you. I absolutely hate this shit. First of all, I’m not quite sure how we can bring any more awareness to breast cancer, what with the entire month of October hosed down in Pepto Bismol pink. Secondly, posting a stupid ass Facebook status does nothing to help breast cancer research; it just makes one feel like they’re actually doing something while looking like an idiot. Want to do something? Donate $5 (about the cost of a Starbucks or a Chipotle burrito) to a cause or charity of your choosing. That actually HELPS someone.
And why can’t things like heart disease (Go Red for Women), lung cancer, or obesity ever get this magnitude of pub? Oh yeah, that’s right…there’s stigma and blame attached to those diseases, despite the fact that they’re just as, if not more deadly.
You rock, Petopa!
OMG this was one of the most annoying weeks ever!!! I got many of these girls lets do this yadda yadda messages, on both my poetry account and my real life account!! It was annoying as frick!!!!
Ha! You should have heard what me and my friends who (like me) have metastatic breast cancer thought of that game.

Followed your link and read. Learned more than I ever could from a bunch of women prancing around in pink tutus shrieking “SAVE THE GIRLS!” Linked Jen’s story on my FB page so others could read it too.
Best wishes to you for health and happiness!
